असम, भारत के उत्तर-पूर्वी भाग में स्थित एक समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक और धार्मिक विरासत वाला राज्य है। यहां के त्योहार और मेले इस क्षेत्र की विविधता, आस्था और परंपराओं का अद्भुत संगम हैं। ऐसा ही एक प्रसिद्ध और विशेष मेला है — अंबू बासी मेला, जो हर साल जून महीने में असम के कामाख्या मंदिर, गुवाहाटी में आयोजित किया जाता है। यह मेला एक धार्मिक, सांस्कृतिक और आध्यात्मिक अनुभव प्रदान करता है।
अंबू बासी मेला का महत्व :
अंबू बासी मेला को "अंबुबाची मेला" या "अंबुबासी पर्व" भी कहा जाता है। यह मेला देवी कामाख्या को समर्पित होता है, जो शक्ति की अधिष्ठात्री देवी मानी जाती हैं। मान्यता के अनुसार, इस समय देवी कामाख्या मासिक धर्म (menstruation) में होती हैं और इस कारण मंदिर के मुख्य द्वार को तीन दिनों के लिए बंद कर दिया जाता है। इस अवधि को ‘अंबू बासी’ कहा जाता है, जिसका अर्थ होता है — “भूमि की शुद्धि से पहले की अवस्था”।
धार्मिक मान्यता और प्रतीकात्मकता :
अंबू बासी पर्व के पीछे एक गहरी आध्यात्मिक भावना जुड़ी हुई है। हिंदू मान्यताओं के अनुसार, कामाख्या देवी को पृथ्वी माता का रूप माना जाता है, और इस पर्व के दौरान यह माना जाता है कि पृथ्वी मां ऋतुस्राव (menstruation) की अवस्था में होती हैं। इसी कारण, इस दौरान कोई धार्मिक अनुष्ठान, पूजा, कृषि कार्य, या शादी-ब्याह जैसे शुभ कार्य नहीं किए जाते।
मंदिर के गर्भगृह को इस दौरान बंद कर दिया जाता है और इसे साफ-सफाई और विश्राम के लिए छोड़ा जाता है। श्रद्धालु इस समय मंदिर के बाहर ही साधना और भक्ति करते हैं। तीन दिनों के बाद जब मंदिर के द्वार पुनः खुलते हैं, तो उसे "महाभिषेक" कहा जाता है और उस दिन हजारों श्रद्धालु दर्शन के लिए जुटते हैं।
तीर्थयात्रियों की भीड़ और साधु-संतों की उपस्थिति :
अंबू बासी मेला का सबसे बड़ा आकर्षण यहां उमड़ने वाली तीर्थयात्रियों की विशाल भीड़ होती है। न केवल असम या भारत के अन्य भागों से, बल्कि नेपाल, बांग्लादेश, तिब्बत और अन्य देशों से भी साधु-संत, तांत्रिक और श्रद्धालु इस पवित्र अवसर पर कामाख्या मंदिर में उपस्थित होते हैं।
विशेषकर "तांत्रिक साधना" के लिए यह मेला बहुत महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है। असम का यह क्षेत्र प्राचीन काल से तांत्रिक परंपराओं का केंद्र रहा है, और कामाख्या देवी को तंत्र साधना की अधिष्ठात्री देवी के रूप में पूजा जाता है। अघोरी, नागा साधु, कपालिक और विभिन्न संप्रदायों के साधक यहां एकत्र होते हैं और विशेष रात्रि साधनाएं करते हैं।
कामाख्या मंदिर – शक्ति की पीठ :
कामाख्या मंदिर असम की राजधानी गुवाहाटी से कुछ किलोमीटर दूर नीलकंठ या नीलाचल पर्वत पर स्थित है। यह मंदिर देश के 51 शक्ति पीठों में से एक प्रमुख पीठ है। कहा जाता है कि जब भगवान शिव माता सती के मृत शरीर को लेकर आकाश में विचरण कर रहे थे, तब भगवान विष्णु ने अपने चक्र से सती के शरीर के टुकड़े किए थे। कामाख्या में माता का योनि अंग गिरा था, और इसी कारण इसे अत्यंत पवित्र माना जाता है।
कामाख्या मंदिर का स्थापत्य भी दर्शनीय है। मंदिर का गुंबद आकार शिखर और सुंदर कलाकृति से युक्त है, जो असमिया स्थापत्य शैली का एक सुंदर उदाहरण है।
• मेला का आयोजन और गतिविधियाँ
अंबू बासी मेला केवल धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों तक सीमित नहीं होता, बल्कि यह एक सांस्कृतिक उत्सव भी बन चुका है। मेला परिसर और आसपास के क्षेत्रों में सैकड़ों दुकानों की कतारें लगती हैं। स्थानीय कारीगर अपने हस्तशिल्प, बांस और लकड़ी की कलाकृतियाँ, पारंपरिक वस्त्र और भोजन की वस्तुएं बेचते हैं।

जब मंदिर का द्वार तीन दिनों के बाद खुलता है, तो इसे "प्रसाद वितरण" के साथ मनाया जाता है। यहां का विशेष प्रसाद "रक्तवर्ण वस्त्र" होता है, जिसे देवी के मासिक धर्म का प्रतीक माना जाता है। यह लाल रंग का कपड़ा तीर्थयात्रियों को दिया जाता है, जिसे वे बड़ी श्रद्धा से अपने घरों में रखते हैं।
इस प्रसाद को अत्यंत चमत्कारी और शुभ माना जाता है, जो जीवन में सुख, समृद्धि और सुरक्षा प्रदान करता है।
• कैसे पहुँचे कामाख्या मंदिर?
कामाख्या मंदिर गुवाहाटी रेलवे स्टेशन से लगभग 8 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर स्थित है। निकटतम हवाई अड्डा लोकप्रिय गोपीनाथ बोरदोलोई अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डा (गुवाहाटी एयरपोर्ट) है, जो लगभग 20 किलोमीटर दूर है। यहां से टैक्सी, बस और लोकल ट्रांसपोर्ट आसानी से मिल जाते हैं।
मेला के दौरान असम सरकार और स्थानीय प्रशासन विशेष व्यवस्था करता है ताकि यात्रियों को किसी प्रकार की परेशानी न हो।
• पर्यावरण और स्वच्छता पर ध्यान
पिछले कुछ वर्षों से अंबू बासी मेला के दौरान पर्यावरण सुरक्षा और स्वच्छता पर विशेष जोर दिया जा रहा है। प्लास्टिक के उपयोग को हतोत्साहित किया जाता है और जैविक अपशिष्ट प्रबंधन को बढ़ावा दिया जा रहा है। मंदिर प्रशासन द्वारा स्वयंसेवकों की टीम तैनात की जाती है जो सफाई और व्यवस्था बनाए रखती है।

प्रमुख ट्रैफिक प्रतिबंध इस प्रकार हैं:
कामाख्या फूटहिल पर प्रतिबंधित पहुंच:
सिर्फ ज़िला प्रशासन द्वारा जारी वैध पास वाले वाहन ही कामाख्या मंदिर की ओर जा सकेंगे।
आपातकालीन सेवाएं जैसे एंबुलेंस, अग्निशमन वाहन और ऑक्सीजन सिलेंडर ले जाने वाले वाहन इस प्रतिबंध से मुक्त रहेंगे।
सीमित फेरी कार संचालन:
फेरी कार पास वाले वाहन शाम 5 बजे से रात 10 बजे तक ही चल सकेंगे।
पांडु पोर्ट रोड:
यह मार्ग अब केवल आपातकालीन परिस्थितियों में उपयोग के लिए आरक्षित होगा। यहाँ नियमित फेरी कार की आवाजाही प्रतिबंधित रहेगी।
तीर्थयात्रियों के लिए मार्ग परिवर्तन:
जलुकबारी से आने वाले श्रद्धालु नीलाचल फ्लाईओवर की सर्विस लेन का उपयोग करेंगे, NF रेलवे मुख्यालय गेट नंबर 3 के पास तीर्थयात्रियों को उतारेंगे और फिर अडाबारी बस स्टैंड या बोरिपारा फील्ड की ओर लौटकर वाहन पार्क करेंगे।
भरालुमुख की ओर से आने वाले श्रद्धालु नीलाचल फ्लाईओवर की सर्विस लेन से चलकर रेलवे गेट नंबर 4 के पास यात्रियों को उतारेंगे।
🚌 बस संचालन के दिशा-निर्देश:
सभी ASTC, सिटी और निजी बसें केवल नीलाचल फ्लाईओवर पर चलेंगी।
किसी भी बस को फ्लाईओवर के अंत में यात्रियों को उतारने की अनुमति नहीं होगी।
🅿️ निर्धारित पार्किंग जोन:
तीर्थयात्रियों को दोपहिया, हल्के और भारी वाहनों को अडाबारी बस स्टैंड, बोरिपारा फील्ड, ASTC माचखोवा या सोनाराम हाई स्कूल फील्ड में पार्क करने की सलाह दी गई है।
🚫 सड़क किनारे पार्किंग पर पूर्ण प्रतिबंध:
पांडु पोर्ट रोड, बोरबाजार रोड, भरालुमुख एलिवेटर कॉरिडोर, डी.जी. रोड और नीलाचल फ्लाईओवर पर सड़क किनारे पार्किंग सख्त रूप से वर्जित है।
🚛 व्यावसायिक वाहनों पर प्रतिबंध:
MG रोड, AT रोड और DG रोड पर सुबह 5 बजे से रात 11 बजे तक मालवाहक और धीमी गति के तीन पहिया वाहनों की आवाजाही पर प्रतिबंध रहेगा।
🚌 अंतर-जिला और लंबी दूरी की बसों पर रोक:
AT रोड, MG रोड और DG रोड पर किसी भी लंबी दूरी की या अंतर-जिला बस (ASTC सहित) की अनुमति नहीं होगी।
🚉 कामाख्या रेलवे स्टेशन से आने वाले तीर्थयात्री:
स्टेशन से आने वाले बसें PNG रोड और डी.जी. रोड के माध्यम से पांडु पोर्ट जाएंगी, जहाँ तीर्थयात्रियों को अस्थायी शिविरों में छोड़ा जाएगा।
⛔ भारी वाहनों पर रोक:
NH-27 से गोशाला की ओर टेटेलिया के माध्यम से भारी वाहनों का आवागमन प्रतिबंधित रहेगा।
✈️ हवाई अड्डा जाने वाले यात्रियों के लिए सलाह:
एल.जी.बी.आई. एयरपोर्ट की ओर जाने वाले यात्रियों को NH-27 मार्ग का उपयोग करने और भीड़भाड़ से बचने के लिए पहले से योजना बनाकर निकलने की सलाह दी गई है।
इन सभी व्यापक उपायों का उद्देश्य अंबुबाची महायोग के आयोजन को सुचारू रूप से संपन्न कराना है, साथ ही आपातकालीन पहुंच, सार्वजनिक सुरक्षा और लाखों श्रद्धालुओं को एक परेशानी मुक्त अनुभव प्रदान करना है।
गुवाहाटी ट्रैफिक के उप पुलिस आयुक्त ने सभी नागरिकों और तीर्थयात्रियों से अपील की है कि वे इन निर्देशों का पालन करें और मेले के दौरान प्रशासन को सहयोग दें।

Assam, a culturally rich state in the northeastern part of India, is known for its vibrant festivals and spiritual traditions. Among its most significant events is the Ambubachi Mela, held annually in the month of June at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati. This festival is not just a religious gathering but also a profound cultural and spiritual experience.
Significance of Ambubachi Mela :
Also known as Ambubasi Mela or Ambubachi Festival, this unique celebration is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya, the presiding deity of the Kamakhya Temple. According to tradition, during this time, the goddess undergoes her menstrual cycle, and the temple's inner sanctum remains closed for three days. This period is known as Ambubachi, which symbolizes the Earth's menstrual phase, representing purification and rest.
Spiritual Beliefs and Symbolism :
The belief associated with this period is deeply spiritual. Goddess Kamakhya is considered a form of Mother Earth, and it is believed that during Ambubachi, Mother Earth is menstruating. Therefore, no auspicious activities like marriages, religious ceremonies, or agricultural work are performed during these days.
The sanctum sanctorum is sealed, and no worship is conducted inside. Devotees perform prayers outside the temple. On the fourth day, when the temple doors reopen, it's marked by a sacred ritual called Mahabhishek and attracts thousands of pilgrims for darshan.
Devotees and Presence of Sadhus :
One of the most remarkable aspects of the Ambubachi Mela is the massive gathering of pilgrims. Devotees, saints, tantric practitioners, and ascetics come not only from across India but also from countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, and Tibet.
This festival is especially important for tantric practices, as Goddess Kamakhya is believed to be the goddess of tantra. Practitioners such as Aghoris, Naga Sadhus, Kapaliks, and others from various sects gather here and conduct special night-long rituals.
Kamakhya Temple – A Shakti Peeth
Located atop the Nilachal Hills, just a few kilometers from Guwahati city, Kamakhya Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India. According to mythology, when Lord Shiva was carrying Goddess Sati's corpse across the sky, her womb and genitals fell at Kamakhya, making it a sacred site.

In recent years, increased emphasis has been placed on cleanliness and environmental protection during the mela. Plastic usage is discouraged, and organic waste management is encouraged. Volunteer teams help maintain hygiene and crowd control throughout the event.

🚦 Traffic Restrictions during Ambubachi Mela
To ensure safety and order during the event, Guwahati Traffic Police has implemented several movement restrictions:
• Restricted Access to Kamakhya Foothill:
Only vehicles with valid district administration passes are allowed. Emergency vehicles (ambulances, fire services, oxygen carriers) are exempt.
• Limited Ferry Car Operations:
Ferry cars with valid passes are allowed only between 5 PM to 10 PM.
• Pandu Port Road:
Restricted for regular use — only for emergencies.
🚶♀️ Pilgrim Routes:
From Jalukbari: Pilgrims to use Nilachal Flyover service lane and get down near NF Railway HQ Gate No. 3.
From Bharalumukh: Pilgrims to get off near Railway Gate No. 4 using the flyover service lane.
🚌 Bus Operations:
All ASTC, city, and private buses will use the Nilachal Flyover. No drop-off is allowed at the end of the flyover.

🚌 Inter-District & Long-Route Buses:
No entry allowed on MG, AT, and DG Roads for ASTC or private long-distance buses.
🚉 Kamakhya Railway Station Arrivals:
Pilgrims arriving here will be transported via PNG and DG Roads to temporary camps at Pandu Port.
⛔ Heavy Vehicle Restrictions:
No entry from NH-27 towards Tetelia via Goshala.
✈️ Air Travelers Advisory:
Travelers to LGBI Airport are advised to use NH-27 and plan in advance to avoid congestion.
These measures aim to ensure the smooth conduct of the Ambubachi Mahayog, safeguard public safety, and facilitate an uninterrupted spiritual experience for lakhs of pilgrims.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) has appealed to all citizens and pilgrims to follow the guidelines and cooperate with the administration.
